I spend a lot of my time trying to figure out how to inspire other people. So when someone inspires me, I love to share it with my friends. Karla (a member of the A-Team) came to a realization that I think a lot of us have come to: "people have forgotten the meaning of Christmas". When I was listening to this I thought she was going to say something biblical, but she was referring to the Christmas spirit. This Holiday has become so materialistic that we have lost touch with the concept of giving without expecting. Karla has been working with her Girl Scout troop for years on different projects they have come up with to aid others. Just because the troop is in college now, and no longer practicing Girl Scouts, doesn't mean they don't remember others. Karla's daughter, Kat, came to her and said she wanted to get a group of friends together to put together and give care packages to our armed forces, over seas. They hit Facebook with reckless abandon, calling friends, and harassing coworkers but when all was said and done the results of their efforts were staggering. Over 300 granola bars, over 100 razors, over 100 hand Warmers, 150 packs of gum, deodorant, toothpaste, floss, brushes, a years subscription to guns and ammo, 50 comics (guess who brought that), 200 top ramen packs, 25 canned goods, over 100 instant oatmeal breakfasts, 20 hand sanitizers, baby wipes, envelopes and stamps for letters home. She even opened her home to 14 people for dinner and let us help put the packages together. Several members of the old Girl Scout troop came and many donated items to be dropped off. Karla, thanks to you and your family. You have given me a boost of encouragement and enthusiasm to try and help other people. I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to see what you come up with next.
